This is a study of the effect of peanut supplemented diet on 80 cats, divided into 4 groups, each given different sets of diet: regular, high fat, high fat with peanuts and regular with peanuts.
The modified diets per group was given for two weeks followed by a week of regular diet for all groups. Serum cholesterol level and weight of each cat was taken at baseline, week 1, 2 and 3.
A statistical analysis of serum cholesterol levels were done afterwards comparing the effect of diet alone and diet with peanuts on the serum cholsterol level of cats.
Statistical analysis showed significant decrease in mean cholesterol levels of the population given high fat diet with peanuts as compared with those given high fat diet alone while an increase in mean cholesterol level of the population given regular diet with peanut was noticed as against those given regular diet alone.
