Legg-Calve-Perthes Disease is a self-limiting non-inflammatory deformity of the proximal femur secondary to ischemia, leading to varying of osteonecrosis of the proximal femur epiphysis. Usually seen in boys 4 to 8 years old presenting with hip pain effusion ( from synovitis ), limp, decreased hip and neck, normal acetabulum and a congruous hip joint that is fully mobile.
One case of this disease with pain and limitation of motion over the hip was admitted at VSMMC last January 22, 2003. The patients was a 7 year old, male, child who underwent work-up and management under the capability of this institution.
OBJECTIVE OF THE CASE REPORT
The objective of this case is to discuss Legg-Calve-Perthes disease as to it etiology, clinical, pathophysiologic therapeutic and prognostic features.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE CASE REPORT
Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center is government tertiary training hospital which caters to several patients with varied from different regions in Visayas and Mindanao. For this we are previledged to encounter varied cases including rare cases such as this case report, Legg-Calve-Perthes disease which some physicians may not encounter in their practice. Therefore recognition of these cases such as this case report is important to familiarized with its presenting signs and symptoms, how it is diagnosed and its treatment, in order to prevent long term, disabling sequelae of the disease.
